TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT THIS HEAT WAVE IS TAKING A TOLL ON AREA BEARS GAME AND FISH SAYS ITS HURTING THE BLACK BEARS FOOD SUPPLY AND FORCING THEM TO LOOK TO HUMANS FOR FOOD CRIS ORNELAS TALKED TO PEOPLE WHO VE HAD CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH BEARS IN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS HE S LIVE WITH OUR TOP STORY THE SANDIA PEAK TRAM IS ALWAYS A POPULAR TOURIST ATTRACTION BUT SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO VE BEEN GOING TO THE TOP THIS WEEK ARE GETTING A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA THIS VIDEO WAS SHOT BY OVERNIGHT WATCHMAN ERIC KUNTZ AT THE TOP OF THE TRAM ITS BEEN A COMMON SIGHT ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN THIS WEEK BEARS HAVE BEEN VISITING THE HIGH FINANCE RESTAURANT ON REGULAR BASIS THERE IS A LIVE BEAR TRAP OUTSIDE THE KITCHEN DOOR AND SIGNS WARNING PEOPLE OF BEARS IN THE AREA IT STARTED MONDAY NIGHT WHEN A BEAR CLIMBED A TREE AND GOT ONTO THE ROOF 57-1 03 he knocked the exhaust fan off of its mount up there probably after the smell BUT THE BLACK BEARS LIKE THESE HAVE BEEN BACK 14 44-14 50 it was tuesday night when customers were sitting right here enjoying their dinner then noticed just a couple of feet away a bear clinging to that tree JUSTIN PADILLA AND JAMES BALL WERE BOTH WORKING THAT NIGHT 7 12-7 18 we were just over by the computer ringing in stuff looked over and this bear was right there just looking around 8 29- 8 35 we had about ten customers still in the restaurant we had to hold everybody back from going to the tram because they were just cruising around doing their own thing for a little bit BUT THE CUSTOMERS WEREN T SPOOKED BY THE BEARS IN FACT THEY WANTED TO GET CLOSER AND TAKE PICTURES 8 51-8 54 after we warned them to stay inside a lot of people went and did the exact opposite and went outside GAME AND FISH OFFICIALS ARE REMINDING PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN AROUND BEAR COUNTRY TO KEEP THEIR TRASH LOCKED UP TIGHT TO KEEP BEARS AWAY THE FEDS ARE
