Bear spotted at Santa Fe High School


IN SANTA FE IT WASN T SNOW CATCHING PEOPLE BY SURPRISE TODAY IT WAS A BLACK BEAR --- CREEPING AROUND SANTA FE HIGH SCHOOL SANTA FE BUREAU CHIEF RAY SEVA TALKS TO A STUDENT WHO HAS VIDEO OF THE CLOSE ENCOUNTER A BASKETBALL GAME IN-BETWEEN CLASSES TURNS INTO AN ENCOUNTER MARIO HERERRA AND HIS BUDDIES SAY THEY NEVER IMAGINED COULD HAPPEN AT SANTA FE HIGH SCHOOL We were playing and then this guy is all There s a bear And I was all Yeah right And I looked and I could see him running THE BOYS CHASED THE SCARED BEAR ACROSS THE SOUTH-CAMPUS THEY EVENTUALLY CORNERED IT--AND THAT S WHEN MARIO WHIPPED OUT HIS CELL PHONE TO SHOOT THIS VIDEO It was shaking the fence And then it found the corner and just jumped over the fence ANIMAL CONTROL AND THE DEPARTMENT OF GAME AND FISH WERE CALLED-IN THEY SCOURED THE NEARBY NEIGHBORHOOD AND AN ARROYO BEHIND THE SCHOOL--FINDING SEVERAL TRACKS--- BUT NO BEAR This wasn t the only bear encounter in the Santa Fe area today Earlier this morning Animal Control and Game and Fish officers caught and trapped another adult bear about ten miles from here THAT BEAR WAS CAUGHT AT THE STATE PRISON IT LL BE RELEASED TO A REMOTE ARE FARTHER NORTH GAME AND FISH SAYS THE TWO ARE PROBABLY YOUNG ADULT BLACK BEARS CHASED DOWN FROM THE NEARBY MOUNTAINS the bigger bears have their territories and they re going to push the smaller bears away So they end up in town POLICE WILL CONTINUE TO PATROL THE AREA THROUGH THE NIGHT IN SANTA FE RAY SEVA EYEWITNESS NEWS FOUR GAME AND FISH OFFICERS SAY IF YOU SEE THIS BEAR YOU SHOULD NEVER CHASE IT THEY ASK THAT YOU CALL THEM FIRST AND THEN GO
